The North West Sustained Theatre hub consists of Sector artists, venues, networks and organisations that deliver quality events and performances that are recognised worldwide. Heres a small clip from 'From Skinhead to Soulboy' featuring the legendary Wigan Casino, a clip that shows the depths of the regions dynamic influence of creativity, culture and heritage.

The North West region is made up of the geographic locations of Greater Manchester, Cheshire Lancashire, Cumbria and Merseyside. The regional Sector Hub is supported through a key partnership of Arts Council England, North West.

In describing the geographic area of th North West, heres a quote from Sidney Bernstein, Founding Chairman of Granada Television from the URBIS exhibition onManchester, Television & the City: Ghosts of Winter Hill;

' The North is a closely knit indigenous, industrial society, a homegeneous cultural group with a good record for music, theatre, literature and newspapers not found in this island, except perhaps in Scotland. Compare this with London and its suburbs, full of displaced persons. And of course, if you look at a map... the concentration of population...you will see that its an ideal place....'

The North West Sector are the first regional hub to build a distinct online cultural offer through this website. A key series of responses were made on the need of Sector artists to develop visibility of presence and position on a range of items. This process would assist a process of engagement with a range of topics that have affect on the North West Sector.

Part of the ongoing capacity build activities being developed by Sector artists from the region, key outcomes focuses upon 'learning from delivery' and strengthens the opportunity of relational build with the Sustained Theatre website on a national basisthe North West will be communicating their experiences to all of Sustained Theatre hubs around the country.

Key needs from North West Sector highlighted that a regional presence could focus upon the following;

  • Creating visibility and feedback on a range of debates, discussions and collaborations
  • Developing the profile of events performances and opportunities
  • Provide a distinct connection to all of the Sustained Theatre regional hubs through sharing experiences
  • Highlight Sector approaches on new activities and projects
  • Deliver new information on Sector delivery from artists working in the region through new articles and discussions

The development of the North West hubs online cultural offer is ongoing process of build, learning from the experience, new content will be updated by the Sector members, all activities will be supported by Sustained Theatres Online Content Editor who will provide advice and guidance and also moderate discussions
